Our Team

Better buildings start with a better approach.

Team Green Architects was established in 2013 by Siân Taylor and Mark Read. Based in Queenstown, we tailor our designs to complement the Southern Lakes region's stunning landscapes  and challenging climate.

Collaboration is key

When you engage Team Green Architects, we listen to your thoughts and ideas. We view your input as a vital part of the process, not something to be glossed over.

Beyond our in-house team, Team Green has a network of trusted partners including consultants and contractors who add valuable contributions based on their particular area of expertise.

Siân Taylor

Siân (pronounced Shaan) was one of the first New Zealand architects to become Passive House certified. This completely changed her approach to design, and set her on the path to founding Team Green Architects.

In 2019, Siân co-founded the New Zealand Architects Declare movement to encourage architects to come together and collectively acknowledge the built environment's role in the climate emergency.

Siân has practised as an architect in Queenstown since 2005 for John Blair Architects, and Warren and Mahoney. Before that, she was a project architect for one of the UK’s largest firms. She also worked on the Sustainable Education team, which helped shape her approach to sustainable design.

“After learning the principles of Passive House, I felt there was an incredible opportunity to make a real difference to the way buildings are thought about and constructed in New Zealand. I saw firsthand how, just as they did internationally, Passive House principles could positively impact the lives of many New Zealanders. To adopt even the smallest change could make a huge difference to the quality of people’s lives, and dramatically reduce our country's energy usage.”

Mark Read

Mark's family first came to Arrowtown for the gold rush in 1864, before settling in all corners of the district. This deep connection to the local landscape has instilled a desire to create work that truly does it justice.

Mark has practised in the Queenstown region since 2001. He originally worked for Queenstown’s first Architect John Blair where he learnt his craft and became the lead architect on many of John’s most extensive local houses, and winery projects. Mark set up his own practice Mark Read Architect in 2011. In 2013, he joined Siân to co-found Team Green Architects.

Mark is passionate about retaining the beauty of Central Otago, where he has spent the majority of his life, by creating architecture that reflects the local vernacular and is specific to both brief and place.
